Segmented Pipeline

Using Forces 022

These horizontal funnels are slightly narrowed on the right-hand side. This narrowing implies a reduction process or filtering. The narrowing is not so much that these funnels cannot be used as pipelines as well.

There are two styles of funnels: the first style is the funnel developed with 0 to 6 segments; the second style is the graduated download. The segmented funnels are represented in the series example and should be used to show how something progresses through a process. The graduated funnels download has three differently shaped funnels that can be used when the process the funnel represents is being modified.

The screens that are used in the series example can be found in series fr006.

Customizing the Funnels

Adjust size

If you want to change the size/shape of the funnel, be sure to group it and resize the entire group. Once resized, ungroup to proceed with other customizations.

Color variations

Select color from your document's color palette or a complimentary color so that the funnels will reflect the color scheme of the rest of your document. If you use different colors (strategic colors) for each segment, you can eliminate the outline. Otherwise you need the outline in a slightly different color to define the segments.

The PowerPoint downloads are already formatted with gradients to use as is or guide you as you apply your own colors. Switch the grays to your palette colors in in the fill effect menu.

3D variations

Do not use 3D effects on this framework. It is already drawn as a 3D object.

Do not use shadows with this framework.

Gradients, patterns, and pictures

Only use gradients that will enhance the 3D look of this framework. Notice the light and shadows of this gradient make the framework look as if it is actually a cylinder. This is the only type of gradient that add "volume" to the funnels. Others tend to flatten the funnel.

The oval on the left-hand side uses slightly darker colors to create the illusion of an "inside" of the funnel.

Animations should be selected that will enhance the meaning of the message, not merely to add interest to the slide. The funnel pieces can be added as reveals. If you are fairly good at animation and working with layers, you can actually have something come in from one side and come out the other side.
