Create grayscale photographs with color overlays in PowerPoint 2003
This is an easy process. There are just a few steps:
- Select a photograph and bring it into PowerPoint 2003
- Duplicate
the
photograph and format one copy to grayscale. If you want to apply a "tint," place a semitransparent, colored field over the grayscale.
-
Place the color version of the photograph on top of the grayscale version (and semitransparent version if you add the "tint" and align them perfectly horizontally
and vertically so that only the color version is visible. Then draw a circle (or other shape) over the place you wish to
be in color (no fill, leave the line color). Crop the color photograph so that it has the same dimensions as the
circle (use the snap to other object preference in the Grid and Guides menu
- Right
click on the cropped photograph and choose "Save as image."
Save the image to your hard drive using either a PNG or JPG format and
give it a name that you'll easily recognize ("Circle photograph", for example).
- Right-click on the shape you drew and select "Format Autoshape"
- Select the "Colors and Lines" tab, click on the downward-pointing arrow next to the color bar, and select "Fill Effects …"
- From the fill effects menu, select the "Picture" tab and then click on "Select Picture"
- Navigate
to the cropped photograph you just saved as an image ("Circle photograph") and
double click. Click OK and click OK again. The cropped photograph
that you saved as an image ("Circle photograph") is now imported into the shape that you drew.
- You can choose to eliminate or change the line color if you wish.
